Using Slack as a guest (during onboarding stage only)

    ℹ️ This article provides an overview of how to use Slack for guest users.
    ⚠️ Please, note that it is available during the onboarding stage only.

    Guest permissions

    ⚠️ Please, note that a single-channel guest can access only 1 Slack channel - the one that the invite was sent to.

    In this channel it is possible:

    ✅ Post messages and replies in the channel.

    ✅ See message and file history in the channel.

    ✅ Send direct messages to members of the same channel.

    ✅ Tag other members of the same channel.

    ✅ Start huddles in the channel.

    ✅ Start a one-to-one huddle with members of the same channel.

    ⚠️ Please, note that an invitation from Genius Sports is required in order to start using Slack as a guest.

    1️⃣ The invitation to join Slack will be sent to personal email. Please, open the invitation email and click on "JOIN SLACK".

    2️⃣ In the newly opened window fill in all the necessary fields and click on "Create Account".

    3️⃣ Set up two-factor authentication.

    4️⃣ In the opened "Account" window click on "Workplaces" in the top right corner.

    5️⃣ Select the preferred way to use Slack:

    • to use the desktop app click on "Download Slack for Desktop";
    • to use it in the browser click on "open this link in your browser".

    1️⃣ Slack channel

    ⚠️ Primary communication with Genius Sports Support in Slack will take place in a Slack channel.

    Here are the distinguishing features of Slack channel communication:

    • every member of the channel can see the messages posted in the channel;
    • every member of the channel can interact with and respond to the messages in the channel;
    • every member of the channel can tag other members in the channel and / or be tagged;
    • every member of the channel can share files in the channel.

    2️⃣ Direct messages

    Additionally, Slack has an option to exchange direct messages.

    In Slack it is possible to set up notifications in the channel according to your preferences.

    Below are the available notification settings and their description:

    ⏹️ All new messages - the notification will be sent for every new message posted in this channel.

    ⏹️ Mentions - the notification will be sent only when you are tagged in this channel.

              ⏹️ Tick Also include @channel and @here to get notified when these tags are used.

    ⏹️ Nothing - no notifications will be sent.

    ⏹️ Use different settings for mobile devices - if needed, it is possible to use different settings for mobile devices.

    ⏹️ Get notified about all thread replies in this channel - the notification will be sent whenever a reply is posted to any of the threads in this channel.

    ⏹️ Mute channel - no notificatios will be sent and the channel will be greyed out.

    Slack application can be installed on a mobile phone to ensure access to all important channels and messages without the need of a laptop/PC (i.e. at venues).
